Frequently asked questions

It can be applied to bare or painted metal, galvanised sheet metal (only if heavily oxidised and thoroughly degreased), concrete and wood.
Thanks to its special formulation, it can be applied to degreased sheet metal even if it is rusty or damp.
Given its thixotropic structure (gel-like appearance), Saratoga Fernovus® can be applied to vertical surfaces without running or dripping.
The gel structure and high solids content give the product excellent filling power.

Fernovus® can also be applied to galvanised sheet metal, but only if the galvanised coating is heavily oxidised (after sanding and degreasing first); if the zinc is not oxidised, Saratoga Primer for Galvanised Sheet Metal must be applied first.

Fernovus® can also be applied to galvanised sheet metal, but only if the galvanised coating is heavily oxidised (after sanding and degreasing it first); if the zinc is not oxidised, Saratoga Primer for Galvanised Sheet Metal must be applied first.

It can be applied directly onto rust without sanding or applying a rust inhibitor.

Easy to use, it guarantees an excellent, long-lasting finish.

It can also be applied to vertical surfaces, as it does not run.

High filling power.

Available in a wide range of finishes: gloss, satin, matt, metallic, hammered and micaceous. The gel formulation also has an antique finish and comes in a wide variety of sizes.

Fernovus gel also boasts excellent brushability, spreadability and flow.

Corrosion protection assessed in accordance with ASTM D2247/15 and B 117/16 standards

Always mix before use (in the case of the cylinder, shake for about a minute).

New surfaces:
Degrease the surface with solvent (e.g. alcohol).
Mix before use; if small frost, paint clumps, or lumps form, melt them by stirring manually with a wide spatula.
In case of new (bare) iron, immediately sand any traces of wire drawing (calamine), degrease, and finally proceed with the application of Fernovus®.
Apply two brush, roller or spray hands waiting at least 20 hours between the first and second.

Surfaces already painted:

Remove any peeling or friable paint (sanding well) or loose or friable rust (use an iron brush or sand well on rust).
Degrease the surface with solvent (e.g. alcohol).
Mix before use.
Apply two brush, roller or spray hands waiting at least 20 hours between the first and second.

Application Fernovus® Spray
Apply the product with light passes while holding the cylinder approximately 30 cm from the surface.
